Message from The Commodore
On behalf of the Leamington Yacht Club Board of Directors, I wish to extend a very warm welcome to everyone to the Leamington Yacht Clubs 2020 season.
As I sit here this early morning, on Groundhog Day, looking out at the open water on the lake, I am already feeling rushed to get the boat cleaned and polished and ready for the water. I am also reminiscing back to my 52 plus years of living on the water and I cannot recall ever seeing Pigeon Bay with open water in February.
Before I rush out to get supplies of bottom paint, cleaner, wax, and a basket of polishing cloths, I will wait for the official spring prediction from Wiarton Willie, Shubenacadie Sam and Punxsutawney Phil, or the best 2 out of 3 anyway!
The Yacht Club board of directors has met and develop an event calendar for the season, we have left some room for additional or alternate events or cruises, pending the results of the survey that was recently sent out. I would encourage everyone to use the survey to bring your wishes forward, voice your concerns, identify your likes and dislikes, responding members cannot be identified when the results come back to the directors so don’t be afraid to voice your concerns.
I wish to acknowledge 2 new members of the Board of Directors this season. Penny Belluz has graciously stepped up to fill the position of Treasurer, as Minke has stepped away after several years of service to the club. Antonella Brown has also joined as a Director, replacing Maria Gomer, special thanks to Maria who has held many positions on the board over the many years, including Commodore of the Club. Penny and Antonella will be joining, Greg Hutchinson, Linda Pajot, Gary Almasi, Rose Costa, Rick Brown, Sharron Beggs, Greg Siddal, Debra Belamy and Myself as the 2020 Board of Directors.
I would encourage everyone to participate in the organized cruises and land events when you can, the season is to short to miss the good company, good food and good times.
Shubenacadie Sam’s twitter account says Nova Scotians can expect 6 more weeks of winter, and Punxsutawney Phil, says early spring! Come on Willie, ….. Oh Boy, Willie says early spring, I shall prepare my shopping list and get ready for the water.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on the docks, on the water and at the events this year.
All the best and Safe Boating to all
